SA20 Format, Rules and Points System

Six teams play each other home and away in the league, then the top four go into a four-match playoff. The final is a single match at Newlands on 21 February 2027.

Tournament structure

Each team plays 10 league games: five at home and five away. That makes 30 league games. Then four playoff games follow: Qualifier 1, the eliminator, Qualifier 2 and the final.

Points system

The official 2027 playing conditions had not been published on the official regulations page at the 3 November 2026 check, so the 2027 points table rules are shown as TBC until the official regulations are checked. In recent SA20 seasons a win was worth four points, with a bonus point available, a no-result shared two points each, and a loss worth zero.

Tie-breakers

Tie-breakers used in recent seasons: points, then wins, then bonus points, then net run rate. Those are recent-season rules, not a confirmed 2027 list.

How a team reaches the final

  1. Finish first or second, win Qualifier 1, and you are in the final.
  2. Finish first or second, lose Qualifier 1, and you get a second chance in Qualifier 2.
  3. Finish third or fourth, win the eliminator, then win Qualifier 2, and you are in the final.
  4. Lose the eliminator or Qualifier 2, and the season ends.
